Everything is good
Why is it necessary to turn off the motorway at Šempeter onto the old Roman road? Because Gostilna Privošnik is a really normal restaurant … in which everything is good!
For 150 years, travellers, locals and other hungry diners have been stopping here. They stop because their favourite dishes are always available, the beer is chilled, the salad is from the garden, the beans are served with pork crackling, the pancakes with walnuts, the strudel is filled with fruit from the orchard, and the gnocchi, dumplings, štruklji and noodles are served with breadcrumbs. Diners frequently stop at Gostilna Privošnik because, in a world that is constantly changing, they must be convinced that it’s the ‘larder of traditional Slovenian cuisine’, everything is still ever-good and, at the same time, safe and sound.
All the dishes are house specials at Gostilna Privošnik and all of them are homely and good.
Recommendation
On the one hand, Slovenia has a lot of simple inns that aspire to be fancy. On the other, however, there are too many fancy restaurants that want to be simple. Neither of them thrive, because in the middle there are too few like Gostilna Privošnik! It’s a traveller’s restaurant for drivers of cars turning off the motorway for fried steaks, and a traditional restaurant for young travellers going from Celje to Šempeter for Privošnik’s craft beer, and a family restaurant that offers fried chicken every day and birthday parties on the terrace and is so homely that everyone loves the dumplings, štruklji, strudel and pork rind that they no longer get at home.
