In the village square

When you turn off the windy road onto the bridge across the Savinja River, you’ll be delighted because in the middle of the village, you come across a small, family hotel where you can have a comfortable night’s sleep. But then you become curious, because like a stage, the glass dining room in the village square sparkles with tablecloths to the floor, pottery by a local artist, a host waiting to take you to the cellar for an aperitif, and a chef who banishes any fatigue thanks to her welcoming bites.

One goes past to reach the Logar Valley, and returns for ski jumps and the Raftmens’ Ball, and this boutique hotel is a favourite among anglers from throughout the world. Although it is completely different following the floods of August 2023, it is of utmost importance that chef Helena Bizjak Žerovnik doesn’t try to cook in the same way as her predecessors. But better!

Recommendation

Quote

The chef at Planinka cooks Zgornjesavinjski želodec (Upper Savinja pork stomach) in veal stock and pours potato soup over it, in which he has also cooked the local specialty, firovž – small dumplings made of pig’s blood and buckwheat flour – and the host in white gloves then adds a black truffle on top, which has been a household ‘sin’ at Planinka since his birth. And Ljubno is suddenly only 30 kilometres from the motorway.

The wine rooms, separated into Slovenian and foreign wines, are filling up nicely, and guests also like to visit Planinka to learn about wine. Sommelier Tomaž Žerovnik, 250 wine labels.

Ambience

The small and elegant dining room in the glass extension is like a chef’s table in a big restaurant.
