Between the Boka and the Soča
The hotel, next to which kayakers begin to descend the wild Soča River, and where the Boka waterfall, with its 136-metre free fall, is the most free-flowing and powerful in Slovenia, had long spoilt the view, which here stretches from Mangart to Triglav. When the dilapidated hotel was rented out and later bought by Saša Vranješ, who spent eight years gaining experience in the hotel industry in London, the renovation of the eyesore was disrupted by COVID…
That’s why everything in the hotel is now made of Slovenian wood, there is a herb and vegetable garden behind the hotel, the hotelier has linked with local suppliers and farms and the cellar is filled with wines from small and organic Primorje winemakers. In addition, the hotel has a culinary shop, a kitchen from a London consultant and a Thai chef, while Boka has a restaurant with gourmet ambitions.

Recommendation

For international guests and an international hotel experience next to Slovenia’s most beautiful river and highest waterfall, locality means that čompe (potatoes), which are traditionally served with Bovec curd cheese, are also served with apricots, Bovec dumplings are salty rather than sweet, local trout is served on a bed of vegetable salad, well-aged Posočje beef rump steak is served with vegetables from the hotel garden, and with desserts, guests on the hotel terrace have the most beautiful view of the Soča Valley.

Wine list
Vranješ searches for boutique vintners, he is interested in biodynamics in the vineyard and ecological stories of Slovenian wines.
Ambience
Everything is wooden and colourful in the vibrant hotel and restaurant dining room, which creates a homely sense of disorder but offers a relaxing view. There is a shady garden in the grounds below and a covered café terrace invites you to rest for a sweet treat.
