Lectar’s hearts for tourists from throughout the world

Like a fairytale! The almost 700 year-old square in Radovljica’s old town is in itself like stepping into a fairytale. Then, when you set foot inside Gostilna Lectar, the centuries roll back, as this house in Linhart Square is more than 500 year’s old. A museum? Well, not exactly, since no museums are this lively! The entrance lobby is full of tourists, with homemade pear schnapps in their hands, expressing their joy at the beautiful pictures of Lectar’s hearts. Downstairs in the cellar is the Lectar workshop (dating from 1766), to the right is the sales area, there are national costumes hanging from the ceiling and all the staff are dressed as they were in 1822 when a restaurant was opened in the candleworks and bakery.

At the back on the right is the oldest room, featuring an open fire, whilst beyond the bar – which is being ‘propped up’ by locals – is the restaurant with snow-white table linen and dried apple pieces and whole walnuts in potteryware on the tables, antiques everywhere, and decorative fresh apples and laurels, while the music of the famous Avsenik ensemble, from nearby Begunje, can be heard playing through speakers.

Take time to go on a trip to Gostilna Lectar so you can see how lovely all Slovenian restaurants were in the past – long ago. And so you can see how lovely Lectar hearts are, not to mention how tasty the traditional food is too!

Quote

If you go on a day trip, visit the museum, dance to the sound of the harmonica, and have your name written on a red Lectar heart, you will agree that you have visited one of the merriest of Slovenia’s traditional restaurants!
