The middle of Srednja vas (Middle Village)
In the middle of Srednje vas is an old, homely, rural inn, which is the main one in the village. This is evident from the new times, which also require century-old inns to be renovated, not only on the outside with new panels and inside with new tables and chairs, but also the menu featuring new dishes, and in the dining room with new energy and new guests. After all, it’s no longer enough for the inn to be old, for the homemade dishes to be passed down from generation to generation, and for the parking area to have enough space for buses.
Pri Hrvatu is proof that traditional inns can also be rejuvenated – for example, through the use of parsley mayonnaise, sesame crisps and citrus sauce atop cold smoked trout, with celery and apple salad, horseradish cream and a honey reduction under thin slices of beef tongue, or with red trout ravioli in a hearty fish soup with lemon oil. But only if it continues to maintain the fame of štruklji with Bohinj curd cheese and Hrvat’s trout in wine!

Recommendation
Because Pri Hrvatu was, and still is, a village inn full of tourists from all over the world, the century-old inn has been rejuvenated so that its guests can get to know Slovenian cuisine from this millennium too! Where trout used to only be served in wine, now it is where the past and the present intertwine, in a velvety butter sauce, spiced with herbs, with drops of aromatically coloured mayonnaise and with a cress dressing. And where the roast potatoes are still the same as before, there is now a cutlet instead of a roast, the cabbage is not pickled, but instead young and sweet, and the sauce is not just from the baking tray, but from a saucière (sauce boat).

Wine list
Pri Hrvatu’s wine list (150 labels of Slovenian wines) makes it the ideal place not just for lunch and day trips but also for a multi-course dinner.
Ambience
The old inn has been revamped with bistro tables and restaurant chairs, the façade is wood-clad, the roadside tables are no longer under a canopy, so there is more light. Only the pavilion across the road is still old and still for locals.
