It really is a homestead
Because Ražman is located on a road that used to be more travelled, there is too much room in the car park, under the wide jutting roof, in the winter garden and in several large dining rooms. Because there are too many dishes on the menu, one needs to limit oneself. Selectively, like at the homestead, where everything is done and made in-house, and spatially as close as possible to the kitchen, because there are aromas of seasonal and Istrian food.
The Ražman family originates from the neighbouring village of Popetre, where it has five hectares of vineyards, and its ancestors had a restaurant there from 1885. Grandpa bought the restaurant in Gračišče in 1962 and offered home-produced meats in addition to white and red wine. When his son Vladimir took over the farm, the wine was decanted into bottles and then, over the years, it earned a platinum Decanter medal. The restaurant grew and acquired accommodation, a shop, a car park and pizzas, but one thing remained – the homestead!
There are no culinary rules at the homestead, but rather culinary customs; there are no chef’s dishes, but rather traditional, homemade and simple dishes, hence it doesn’t attract curious guests who are looking to search, discover and influence, but rather hungry guests who are curious about what the Ražmans’ cook for themselves, not just for them.
Recommendation
When you’re passing by and hungry, you can eat your fill of Istrian food; when you drink something (wine) with it, you’ll be rewarded; when it gets dark, you can stay overnight; when it’s time to leave, buy something to take home. Here, there is an aroma of prosciutto and pancetta, although of course they also have truffles. Everything is made in-house, so it’s hard to choose between the fuzi, gnocchi, ravioli and polenta, let alone the seasonal dishes. So, return to Ražman when there are asparagus, truffles, porcini mushrooms, venison, pork dishes, a new wine vintage or a new wine medal.

Wine list
The Ražman family has five hectares, 14 wine labels and three sommeliers. Rok is in charge of the still wines (and olive oil) alongside his father, while younger brother Nik is in charge of the sparkling wines and spirits. Ražman’s Malvasia Antiqua, 2015, was awarded 97 points and a platinum medal in the 2018 Decanter World Wine Awards. The oldest vineyard is over a hundred years old!
Ambience
Whether in the winter garden or in one of the three dining rooms, Ražman is a homestead and a true family and Istrian restaurant!
