A neo Inn

Gostilna Breg isn’t a bistro, even though it’s located on the busiest Slovenian riverbank. Breg isn’t a restaurant, even though its slogan is ‘Eat more slowly’. Breg isn’t a pub, although there is a 400-year-old pub/restaurant tradition beneath its arches. Breg isn’t a tavern, even though it offers drinks and food to go alongside. And Breg isn’t ‘celebrity cheffy’, although its head chef once had a Michelin Star.

Breg isn’t an inn either, because Slovenian inns can only be old and for the old, only traditional, only feature Slovenian food and Slovenian tunes. So, what then is Breg? “A neo inn”, says chef Jorg Zupan!
This neo inn is a place for get togethers, where everyone feels welcome, where groups have loud debates while sharing everything that is in the centre of the table, where friends drink beer and order cold cuts of meat and cheese from Slovenian farms, where couples share dessert over a glass of wine, and where on Sundays entire families gather over beef soup, fried chicken and pork shank.

The menu at Gostilna Breg is as colourful and varied as the tourists, people strolling and the hungry, thirsty and curious along the banks of the Ljubljanica river; from tataki to tartare, from crudo to parmigiana, from steamed buns with pork belly to saddle of dry aged Krskopolje pork, from steak to ‘steak’, from homemade tiramisu to sourdough bread ice-cream. Hence Gostilna Breg’s popularity, and because of the chef the menu features dishes that other restaurants that line the banks of the Ljubljanica river offer. Breg, however, has more ideas, which not only satiate the hungry but also the curious. Breg is a place for sharing and relaxing.
