The bistronomy bistro and bar AFTR is in the centre of Ljubljana, on the site of the former Zupan Atelje, in which chef Jorg Zupan earned his first Michelin Star. Hence the name AFTR …
Places like this, in the centre of the city, after designed for people to visit ‘after’, i.e. after work (or even during work). Let’s go for a glass of something and eat a little something alongside; then meet someone, then drink a bit more, then eat again… and so it goes on until it’s time for dinner. After dinner, everyone is happy and then it goes on and on. And AFTR has such ambitions, ambience and menus.
After Jorg Zupan returned his Michelin Star, he came up with the simpler, more youthful, livelier and more sociable AFTR. The ambience, table linen, prices, number of chefs and guests changed. Jorg Zupan is the only one who remained (the same). Keep this in mind whilst enjoying his unique food on (old!) plates.
Recommendation
Everything is shared at AFTR! Guests share food, and the dishes created by chef Jorg Zupan share lively, varied, layered, feisty and, therefore, different tastes. However, this isn’t French-style bistronomy, in which haute cuisine has given up its stars and begun to cook ‘merely’ simply good, albeit still very French food; these aren’t distant (Eastern) flavours that draw their inspiration from Japanese traditions; and they aren’t Mediterranean taste as we know them. Let’s just say that this is bistronomy chef Jorg Zupan-style.

In the same way that the food is shared, the bottles are too – 30 Slovenian wines, mostly from the Primorska region and many of which are also natural wines, are available by the glass.

Bistronomy bistro ambience and a monochrome social area, with small plates, multiple dishes on the table, for sharing, no multiple courses, as you go along, at the bar or a shared table on a street in the centre of the city.
Specialities
AFTR is after, but before there was Atelje, where Jorg Zupan received Ljubljana’s first Michelin star.
