Contemporary Karst food
What should one leave for next time? That’s the question that springs to mind at Gostilnica Ruj! Situated in the midst of the Karst, just a few metres from Italy, where chef Peter Patajac cooks as if at home. Gostilnica Raj is the icing on the cake of a great excursion!
There is a table for regulars beside the old bar, in the interspace there is an exhibition of wines – the likes of which you are unlikely to have ever drunk – and food for winter storage, which you will want to take home. In the dining room there are so few tables that it’s no wonder that the owner has an in-depth chat with each and every guest!
At Gostilnica Ruj the food is traditional whilst at the same time very different. The food is simple but no less top-notch, whilst also being cosmopolitan, however, the ingredients are local, with the absolute minimum of food miles involved. Everything is seasonal and especially chosen, and everything is from here. Everything, therefore, smells and tastes great and after every course you can hardly wait for the next one.
