Somewhere something is cooking, whilst elsewhere something is being created. Because at some restaurants it’s not just a case of filling our stomachs but also our minds, and that is why in some cases a restaurant ceases to be a mere restaurant and instead puts on a show. In some cases that is a mere cookery show, whilst in others it is theatrical. And, as is the case when you go to the theatre, it appeals to some but not to others. Therefore, the saying the ‘cooking is (also) art’ isn’t said in vain. One thinks about all this not only whilst eating but also whilst listening, watching, feeling and being amazed at Mak. So, don’t just go because you are hungry, go because you are also curious and patient!

Mak is a restaurant where you can switch off, therefore you need instructions for its use: don’t look left or right, don’t be fooled by the first impression, don’t seek what you already know, forget where you are and ignore everything that you know or have read about good restaurants. Just allow yourself to enjoy the good vibe, be positive, concentrate on the tastes and everything will fall into place to make one of the best culinary experiences in Slovenia!

Never go to Restavracija Mak just to eat, at the same time one should be prepared to learn a lot too. That is the case in David’s school of flavours and the contrasts of Maribor, which is why it is necessary to strive for so much artistic freedom and whimsicality – well, one is rewarded in the end!
