The Ladies of Dobrna
In bygone days, drinking whey in the café in the spa park of Slovenia’s oldest thermal spa was part of the prescribed spa treatment. These days, a visit to Bistro Mlečna Marijanca, housed in the same late-19th-century building, is part of any visit to Dobrna. A whey drink is served as the chef’s and sommelier’s amuse-bouche.
Mlečna Marijanca is a bistro, but its walls are brought to life by Biljana Unkovska’s vividly coloured portraits of famous ladies from Dobrna. Alongside Carniolan sausage and a royal burger, homemade beef soup with noodles and homemade tagliatelle with truffles, game ragù with gnocchi and Rossini fillet with foie gras, you will discover that some illustrious women have visited Dobrna before you: film diva Sophia Loren, Habsburg empress Maria Theresa, Serbian princess Julija Obrenović, Anna Plochl, wife of Archduke John, and Austrian aristocrat Clémentine Metternich.
Recommendation
Is it hard to choose when the menu has so many papers and pages? The smallest one offers the most for the least, making it easy to put together an affordable three-course menu from the chef’s selection, with three dishes to choose from for each course.
