Very simple, very good

Ošterija Klinec is self-sufficient – when you arrive, you never want to go anywhere else, because now Klinec is trying even harder than before to not be a gourmet restaurant, but rather just an inn where everything is good. In the middle of Medana, the widest doors in the most wine-loving Slovenian village have opened once more; in the courtyard the views stretching all the way to the Dolomites again takes the breath away from the hungry; on the idyllic terrace beneath grape vines, the air once more hums with the clink of glasses and appreciative murmurs, while from the fireplace, heated by vine wood, the inviting aromas of the organic farm rise again.

Klinec is still a Brda inn where people tend to talk with their mouths full, a homestead and an organic farm that, in addition to home-produced meats, also offers traditional dishes: cold dishes such as cottage cheese with pumpkin seed oil, and roast beef or beef tongue; for an intermediary course peperonata stew, pearl barley, jota stew, or tagliatelle with cheeks or gnocchi with capon, and for main course, tripe, chicken thighs or grilled pork neck, oxtail and broiled veal or beef ribs. All very simple, but all very good.

Klinec isn’t a trendy restaurant, although it is ‘IN’, if you are there. Klinec doesn’t explore and create, although you’ve never drunk wine from such barrels. Klinec is not for every day, although it’s always pleasant there. The ‘new’ Klinec isn’t just about food, although you will eat so much that you may then find yourself looking for an empty bed in crowded Brda.

Aleks Klinec has a vineyard that is too small (6.5 hectares) to be better known at home, as he exports his wines to as many as 17 countries, to prestigious restaurants and wine shops there. Organic production, maceration of white varieties, long maturation in small and larger barrels, natural and old vinification processes.
