Visiting experience -New oak wood of old Hrast (2025)

Sooner or later, those who come for a pizza or burger become curious, as Hrast knows how to convince them with dishes such as orange and algae in a seafood salad, egg yolk and potato foam on buckwheat with calves’ liver, crispy ravioli in fish soup, crispy panada on pork medallions… or just with cherries in homemade tiramisu.

Cold soup

Cold tomato soup, elderberry cream, shrimp, basil. When you order cold tomato soup for lunch in the middle of the hottest summer, you don’t do it because you want to take a picture with it…

In the middle of Apače, everything is together, the church, the municipality, the cultural center, and even the Mura and Austria are very close. But the heart is, of course, the inn… That’s why Hrast has a spacious parking lot, enough space for weddings and meetings, a garden by the road, a TV at the bar and a radio in the dining room. After all, this is an old, homely, rural inn.

Greetings

On the Oak Board are goat cheese with honey and homemade chicken pâté, decorated with breadcrumbs with parsley, fried arugula. Sweet potato chips, a sprig of slajer “from our garden”. The bread is homemade, with rosemary. The pâté is recognizably livery, so hearty enough to justify the adjective “homemade”. Goat cheese is a surprise in its own right, so it would be useful to present its origin.

Octopus in salad

Octopus in salad with orange and seaweed. Finely chopped octopus, chopped tomatoes, salad with (pickled) seaweed and orange (peel) on top, zucchini cream on the side.

Pasta and trout

Pljukanci with smoked trout and fennel. Even pasta, which is a “must” in Slovenian restaurants, can be the same as everywhere else, or just the same as “ours”. With smoked trout, which they smoke themselves, Hrast has placed itself among the latter. The selection of pljukanci already promises something different, which is further emphasized by the added freshness of fennel.

Fish soup

Fish soup with crispy ravioli. Crispy-fried ravioli are stuffed with potatoes and shallots, placed on a “bed” of roasted hazelnuts, parsley crumbs, mixed with crispy sea bass skin and parmesan. Alongside this texture, the author also took care of the aroma, with the help of a cream of roasted yellow pepper. A thick fish soup is poured over it at the table, which thus turns into a different experience.

Trout and gnocchi

Poached trout fillet with lime and lemongrass, gnocchi with fava beans, fried arugula, fried cherry tomatoes, bell peppers, fish soup-sauce added at the table.

Crispy pork

Crispy pork medallions in homemade panko crumbs, mashed potatoes with herbs, pork skin popcorn, sautéed julienne vegetables (carrots, zucchini, leeks), decorative zucchini and pepper cream.

Chocolate souffle

Chocolate souffle with cardamom, vanilla ice cream, berries, crumble, three types of cream (mango, apple and strawberry). The souffle is nicely browned on the outside, but still (a little) liquid on the inside, so that it still manages to spill.

Tiramisu and sour cherries

Homemade tiramisu with sour cherries in a glass.

Wine

In the homely Styrian inn, locals drink their own way, but Hrast also has three wine display cases and a wine list (30 labels).
