Some arrive at the Solkan power plant via the scenic road, while others visit for tennis or volleyball, the Soča river, the stone bridge, the town of Solkan itself, Gorica (on both sides of the border), Brdo – ours and theirs! And, of course, everyone who visits is hungry, so, could it be that everything else is just an excuse, because the real reason they come is to visit Gostilna Žogica!

The team at Gostilna Žogica know how to treat guests. They know that visitors love this collectable mess of antiques, the closely-packed tables that are purposely set askew, the kitchen that you can see, the hospitable waiting staff who know what you want before you even order, the ‘concert’ of the hustle and bustle of a cacophony of clinking glasses, creaking chairs, clanking utensils and diners licking their lips. It is this atmosphere of relaxation that proves its popularity by surviving and therefore leaves everything else at the door.

If it initially seemed that one guest was missing, it was you! Be sure to come when the native Solkan radicchio, which is the best and most expensive of all winter salads, turns red at the beginning of each year. Enjoy it on the old wooden veranda with a tented terrace and views of the Soča river. Then be sure to return later during the year, when Žogica – a restaurant that knows where it is at home, who its neighbours are, what there is to be proud of, and when it is good here – hangs other seasonal attractions under the ceiling.

Gostilna Zogica is quick to offer something for everyone – gourmet steaks, pizzas from the bread oven and homemade pasta, something for seafood lovers and even for those with the sweetest tooth. But don’t forget to look up, because something even better is hanging from the lights up there.
