Sedem (Seven) like winning the lottery

The crunchiness of miniature pea-, pepper- and lime-flavoured sculptures on buckwheat popcorn, on a wooden grill of herb polenta with a vegetable cover, steamed bun with a meatless centre on sesame, warm yolk in an egg shell and roasted pepper like grandma used to make … Nowadays, when everything is fast, cobbled together, as cheap as possible, made of paper, tasteless and only practical, walking into Sedem feels like a holiday as you are greeted at the door. Your coats are taken, you are shown to your table, your chair is pulled out and you are handed such a heavy wine list that you’re pleased the chairs are so comfortable, the tables are nicely laid, and you’re not wearing shorts.

Sedem’s restaurant style isn’t that of a classroom, because it doesn’t differ every year, but nevertheless it is also a classroom, because it teaches us – the guests – that food isn’t just about eating, and eating isn’t just about biting. In short, at Sedem you feel like you’re in a fancy restaurant, the kind that are no longer the latest (bistro-fast) fashion, but that’s exactly why we need them so much. That’s why Sedem is like winning the lottery for Maribor!

Recommendation

Quote

Are you brave enough? Allow yourself to be surprised! The quality-price ratio at Restaurant Sedem is such that everyone must walk from the city centre! The people of Maribor should do so, so that each of them could indulge at least once a year in the seven-course tasting menu prepared by students who have a desire to be the best at what they do. Foodies (from everywhere) do so to leave it to the chef and to compare the school restaurant with real ones, albeit only the best ones in Slovenia. Tourists on a short visit to Maribor come to taste the curd cheese štruklji, which aren’t only homemade as they are elsewhere, but have also been imaginatively transformed into one of the Seven ”Wonders” in the spirit of modern tastes.
